Hotels

“Green” Hotels are environmentally-friendly properties whose owners and managers are eager to institute programs that save water, save energy and reduce solid waste to help protect the environment and create a healthier atmosphere to live and breathe.

At The Olde Mill Inn in Basking Ridge their guest rooms are prepared with only non-caustic, non-toxic, Green Seal approved cleaning agents and detergents allowing you to breathe and sleep better. Green Seal certification ensures that a product meets rigorous, science-based environmental leadership standards that are better for human health and the environment.

All over New Jersey many Hotel and Resort establishments are becoming more and more aware of the growing concerns of our environment. Many are reducing consumption, becoming more energy efficient and some even switching to renewable energy. Crystal Springs Resort, the Northeast’s premier residential resort located in NJ’s Sussex Skylands, has a strong commitment to developing its holding in an ecologically sensitive manner. The progressive Resort already has a record for environmental excellence.

The Bridgewater Marriott hotel has earned the prestigious ENERGY STAR® label from the E.P.A. The hotel has a host of conservation and recycling initiatives, including energy panels in the building, recycling of paper, plastic and glass and water conservation.

Bed & Breakfasts and Inns

Alpine Haus Bed & Breakfast Inn is an environmentally friendly lodging establishment. They have signs in the rooms that request guests help conserve precious natural resources by using their towels more than once and having the bed linen changed every three days. At breakfast water is served only when requested and they do not place bottled water in the rooms. When Alpine Haus was being converted to a Bed & Breakfast Inn insulation was blown into the structure and they have since replaced all the windows with thermal pane windows. These efforts have greatly reduced the energy consumption for heating the building.

Berry Preserve B&B in Hunterdon County makes an effort to be as green as possible by asking guests to reuse towels, recycling and composting, limiting paper use and also use natural cleaning supplies when possible.

Built with some passive solar architectural features: Berry Preserve faces south with a large porch which provides shade in summer, but allows the lower sun of winter to shine in and warm the home during cold months. Towering trees around the structure help cool it in summer. Individual thermostats in each room allow for more control in rooms not in use.

Opposite the property is 98 acres cared for by the Audubon Society. In spring, a vernal pond on the property features a variety of wildlife. The park’s trails lead through old hedgerows with huge trees back to the Musconetcong River.

At The RoseMary Inn being eco-friendly is evident from the breakfast they serve to the grounds that they work hard at cultivating.  Situated on 17 acres, owners Theo and Elaine Nagelmakers have been clearing non-native plants such as Russian olive, Japanese barberry, multi-flora rose and wild grape vines while at the same time making brush piles for animal habitat.  Walking trails have been cut through the back of the property so guests may enjoy a leisurely stroll and observe a variety of wildlife from birds to deer, fox, raccoon, bear and more.

The owners conserve where possible including having individual heating/ac controls and fans in rooms and cleaning with non-toxic products.   For your comfort, you will find 100% cotton sheets and towels and hypoallergenic comforters.  The Inn also provides its own locally produced goats milk soap and all natural bath amenities.  Big supporters of “Buy Fresh, Buy Local”, breakfast consists of local farm fresh eggs, fruits and vegetables, and all natural jams, maple syrup and honey.  Artisan breads from local bakers – preservative and additive free – are also served.  All baking is from scratch.  Fresh meats are from a local German butcher shop and locally produced cheeses are served when available.
