Benefits of Skylands Membership

When a business in Hunterdon, Morris, Somerset, Sussex or Warren counties joins the Skylands of New Jersey Tourism Council they receive the following privileges and benefits: networking opportunities, on-line promotion, media publicity, representation at trade and consumer shows, co-op advertising opportunities and business listings. Skylands members are business professionals who recognize that it takes business communities collaborating to build a strong region. The goal of the Council is to promote the Skylands region while showcasing our members as shining stars. We accomplish these goals through the following efforts:

• Your listing on www.skylandstourism.org website includes contact information, a brief description and a link to the business' web site. A comprehensive brochure request form allows visitors to request information on the region, each of the 5 counties and your business.

• Your business is in the all-encompassing Skylands brochure. This popular 20-page booklet describes for visitors what they can expect when they visit our region, while highlighting the unique identity of each county.

• Your business can be included in itineraries that draw people to the Skylands Region. Iitineraries are continually being created, posted on the web, included in mailings and supplied to NJ Division of Travel and Tourism to be used for reference at select trade shows and for general inquiries.

• Member brochures are displayed at trade shows. Each year Skylands attends a variety of shows and hands out member brochures and general literature on the Skylands,

• Being a state-chartered, non-profit coalition of businesses and a destination marketing organization for New Jersey gives our members first hand notification of what is happening in our industry at the State level. A liaison from NJOTT attends monthly board meetings – which are open to all members – to review recent initiates at the State, report trends in tourism and suggest campaigns members may piggy back off to help stretch advertising dollars. Members receive frequent reminders when deadlines are approaching for printed publications like the NJ Calendar of Events.

• Members have opportunities to participate in cooperative marketing programs and events, and familiarization tours with the media. When NJOTT contacts us for assistance in planning a trip to the region for a group of travel writers, we contact our members first for the opportunity to participate.

• Members can promote their events and festivals on the Skylands Calendar Of Events web page. The internet is a great way to reach visitors from outside the Skylands area, helping them get acquainted with our region and helping them plan what they can do during their visit. Having your events listed on the website also makes the information easily accessible for the Council to use in other formats.

• Members can interact with each other at meetings and regional events. These occasions give members an opportunity to discuss their businesses and how they can forge partnerships. It is through such networking that new business ideas are formed and companies grow. When members become familiar with what fellow members offer they can refer visitors to each other. Members also regularly partner with each other when organizing events as well as when creating day and weekend trip packages to drive business to the area. This not only creates a friendly work environment but also leads to more business for all involved.
